With the abundance of fear in so many aspects of our lives, anyone saying they’re not experiencing even a little bit, is in denial. So many arenas of scandalous activity are being exposed, that what we consider the foundations of human existence are being shaken to the CORE.
If a human body were to stand at the edge of a steep precipice, it will register fear of a pending danger, regardless of any intellectual belief system. The body senses it’s in trouble, and the only thing that’s going to eliminate that fear is a safety railing or backing away from the edge.
There’s no safety railing to protect us from falling into a Mad Max type social structure, and backing away from the dilemmas at hand won’t make anything any better, so what can we do individually and collectively to in some way move forward, because taking some form of causative action is the only thing that will allow us to breathe easier and feel safer.
The new and exciting science of Somatics (the physics of the Mind~Body connection; how our psychology affects our physiology, and vice versa) deals with how our bodies internally process the mental, emotional and physical energy being experienced from our actions, involvements and environment.
CORE Attitude
Fear causes our bodies to react in a number of ways. Adrenaline levels go up, and balance, coordination, dexterity and timing become compromised. Irrational feelings wreak havoc with our judgment and capacity for reason. Higher level brain function, problem solving and creative thinking, go offline because of the internal fight or flight mechanism.
The most important thing to be aware of regarding fear, is the human brain can’t distinguish between real and imagined fear. The mental, emotional and physiological responses are exactly the same either way. Developing a process of discernment as to whether a state of fear is based on reality or imagination, is the first step.
CORE Communication
Communication is obviously going to be difficult if our mental, emotional and physical faculties are being compromised. Yet the very process of engaging in honest and realistic communication with ourselves and others, is the single best action we can take to render an imagined fear as powerless over us, or to design causative actions against real fears.
Maintaining effective communication while in a state of fear is the most effective tool available. If we use communication as a daily training modality, when we’re called into battle against fear, we’ll be adept at using our communication skills when we need them the most.
CORE Relationship
The only thing worse than being in a state of fear, is being there by yourself. And for some just being alone is a fearful state in and of itself. Having people you can communicate with effectively by your side in difficult situations or in crisis, is an extremely functional tool, and rather comforting at the same time.
Maintaining a variety of functional relations can prove extremely useful in times of fear. Using the right tool for the job at hand is a technician’s idea of effectiveness. Reaching out to the right person in a time of need, could prove to be a best practice for human relations.
CORE Leadership
Effective leadership, especially in times of fear, requires the components of attitude, communication and relationship to be online and fully functional in order to get ourselves or others to a better place. There are no shortcuts in terms of leadership when we, or those we’re responsible for, are experiencing the negative effects of fear. We’re either going to take, or cause others to take meaningful action, or be at the mercy of whatever is causing the fear in the first place.
The world is desperately in need of effective leadership. Too many people have taken, or been placed in, positions of leadership without having the necessary components of leadership in place. If we choose to practice effective self-leadership on a daily basis, when the fear-factor kicks in like it’s doing these days, we’ll be in a better position to help ourselves and be of useful service to others.
